THE SPOTLESS LOOK

To obtain Genelia’s clear, porcelain-like, rosy-cheeked complexion, prevent your skin from problems such as dark spots and tanning. We explore the causes and solutions of the same:

Dark spots and tanning

When the skin becomes unusually dark, hyperpigmentation occurs. The emergence of dark spots and tanning of the skin are common signs of hyperpigmentation.

Dark spots—also called age spots—are often caused by excessive exposure to the sun.

Due to the high amount of sun exposure on the face, neck and hands, as they are the most affected areas. Even though dark spots are not always caused by ageing, as we age, our skin’s ability to fight back reduces, thereby producing age spots.

Deep wrinkles, dry and rough skin, visible blood vessels on the face, nose and ears are some of the many effects of dark spots.

Tanning, similar to dark spots, is also caused due to sun exposure. The UV intensity is highest between 10am to 4pm. Using sun blocks or sunscreen lotions with a minimum SPF 15 is effective to a certain extent.

CAUSES

Excessive sun exposure, as UV rays hasten the production of melanin Hereditary or genetic causes Hormonal changes Vitamin deficiency of B12 and zinc Thyroid deficiency

SOLUTIONS

Use a sun block with minimum SPF 15 Consume multivitamins with Omega 3 fatty acid supplements Mix two tablespoons of salt/sugar with one tablespoon of lemon juice. The salt/sugar will exfoliate skin quickly, and the lemon juice will act as a natural bleach or skin lightener Use a cleanser and moisturiser that contains natural fruit acids. Or use a body wash that contains alpha-hydroxy acid to reduce suntan Include beta-carotene (in carrots) and potassium (in banana) in your diet to prevent dark spots A few drops of honey in yogurt provides for a good facial and helps lighten dark spots.

VEER : Movie review

VEER Movie Review ..

Cast: Salman Khan, Zarine Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Sohail Khan, Jackie Shroff
Music: Sajid/Wajid
Director: Anil Sharma
Producer: Vijay Galani/Sunil A. Lulla
Lyricist: Gulzar
Rating: ***

Salman Khan, Zarine Khan starrer Anil Sharma’s epic ‘Veer’ which opened yesterday at theatres worldwide, has done excellent business at single screen theatres in North India, especially in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
The audiences were seen in awe of Salman Khan’s aura and terrific performance and loved his part.
Veer is a must for all Salman Khan fans - he delivers an inspired performance and keeps you interested in the proceedings even when the story doesn't.

VEER : HQ Wallpaper

What's good: Veer is an out-and-out Anil Sharma film and there are no pretenses when it comes to that. The canvas is larger-than-life and some of the scenes have been shot spectacularly.

Just like Kranti and Mard, which were over-the-top with their high-strung notes of patriotism, Veer follows the same path. If you go looking for reasoning and detailing in the script, you'll end up feeling short-changed. Anil Sharma delivers a full-on masala film and he makes no bones about that.

Veer is an action film with a love story as the backdrop - and it serves you adequately on both fronts. The action works particularly because of the way it is executed and the towering presence of Salman Khan.

Giving Sharma his due, some of the stunts are the film's highlight - the train sequence with Salman galloping on two horses simultaneously; the pre-interval action scene between him and the king's son (Puru Raaj Kumar); the sequence between Salman and the phirang wrestler; the Salman-Mithun confrontation scene and of course, the climax.

The war scenes (digitally enhanced, of course) look magnificent. The Veer-Yashodhara love story also has its poignant moments.

Among the performances, Mithun Chakraborty is fantastic as Veer's father - he steals the show every time he's on screen. Jackie Shroff as the bad man is impressive.

Newcomer Zarine Khan is charming though her resemblance to Katrina Kaif is uncanny - in her introductory scene Sharma even shoots her from the 'Kaif' angles.

But of course, the real 'veer' of Veer is Salman Khan - it's his sheer star power that holds the film together. In a role that's tailor-made for him, Salman packs a punch exactly when it matters.

What's bad: The biggest flaw in the script is its wavering stance towards who the real enemy is. Most of the time, it's the king of Madhavgarh; then suddenly the focus shifts to the British Empire.

Anil Sharma also should've avoided lifting scenes from Hollywood period films like Gladiator and Troy to avoid comparisons. Veer had the potential to be an Indian Braveheart had he kept it totally original.

In any period drama, the costumes form a critical part. However, in Veer, the outfits that the men wear keep you confused.

Sometimes, Salman and Sohail dress like hippies and at other times like gypsies and pirates. Some of the ladies seem to have shopped at Seasons for their noodle-strap blouses and net sarees. And the British commissioner simply borrows Mogambo's attire.

Sohail Khan is a huge disappointment; he keeps making the same faces and noises he did in Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya. Puru Raaj Kumar and Aryan Vaid play one-dimensional wicked princes, looking out for their sister. Neena Gupta sticks faithfully to one expression throughout the film.

All eyes on Salman Khan's VEER

VEER releases on 22nd January. The team of Eros International’s Veer has been looking forward to this day with great anticipation as the mega project finally hits the big screens across the country. Salman, who has an eye for spotting talent, will introduce Zarine Khan in his dream project. And the newbie is glad that mentor Salman’s dream project has materialised so well. The film is set in 1875 and is based on the love story of a warrior, who leads his clan of the fearless Pindhari warriors, who refused to surrender to the British Empire.

Salman says, “Veer can be called my most awaited film till date. I wanted to direct a film on this subject. My biggest fear for Veer was that my father had asked me not to make this film! But when he finally saw the end result, he came out saying ‘It’s outstanding’. Speaking about the film, director Anil Sharma says, “I had approached Salman for another film, but he discussed Veer with me. Salman has lived the character of Veer for 20 years. I was so inspired by his vision and enthusiastic narration that I felt I had to be a part of this project.” Producer Vijay Galani was extremely excited to have Salman playing a fearless warrior. “I took up Veer as a dream, not just to make a good film and recover our investment, but to make India’s biggest film, to take Bollywood to a very new level and have Salman as a ferocious warrior.”

Zarine plays Princess Yashodhara, who’s head-over-heels in love with Veer in the movie. In real life, too, Zarine can’t stop singing praises of her hero. “I remember the first time I met him on the sets of Yuvvraj, I had asked him for an autograph. While signing the autograph he told me ‘Sweetheart, now you’ll sign autographs for the world’. I was stumped. Later I got to know that I was selected for Veer,” she gushes.

Salman took great interest in the making of the film. Speaking about his helpful ways, Zarine says, “Salman taught me a lot of things. He never threw starry tantrums. I had heard that he gets angry quickly, but that’s not true. He’s a genuine person. There would be times when I would not get a shot right, but he never yelled at me. He would explain the shot in great detail and show me how to do it. He is perfect for the role. He is the perfect warrior.” Looks like with his princess by his side, warrior Salman is all set to win the box office battle once again.

Shriya Saran : Candid interview - Hot images

One look at SHRIYA SARAN and her subdued demure and innocent face negates any chance of wild thoughts brimming inside her mind, which ironically is the very essence of this story. Shriya Saran may be an unusual candidate to be called WILD..but thats what sets her apart.

Here is what Shriya Saran said in the recent interview with Stardust.

She speaks candidly about relationships

What’s your take on one-night-stands?

I don’t think it’s nice to indulge in them but for people, whatever makes them happy, they should do it. I definitely wouldn’t judge a person on that basis. I know that people have lives of their own and they are free to do what they want to do.

Why do most women have a fascination for bad boys?

I think that’s how we all think deep down inside. We don’t do bad things because we have our own conscience and we fear crossing that line thinking that fate would get back at you. So when we see someone being bad, we like them. Because even to go out and do what you want to do, you need guts. Even if you want to do the same things, you cannot because of your conscious family values and all the emotional bullshit going on in your head. So when you see them around, you love them. It’s like this when your own boyfriend does something wild, you say, ‘F*&@ I hate you’ but when a random guy whom you’ve just met turns out to be happening and wild, you don’t mind being friends with him.

If infidelity was the only way to be with someone you consider your soul mate, would you go for it?

Soul mate is a very strong word. I feel people are born in groups and so are the souls. And it’s very rare that you would find it with the set of people you are with. A lot of times you find soul mates in your relations like father, mother, sister, daughter and even your friends. For me, whether you are or not in a relationship you can lead your life the way you want. Then also you can have friends with benefits; you can have a relationship with anyone and do what you want. But when you are in a relationship you need to have a certain amount of discipline otherwise it’s really not going to work out. You can’t have an open relationship; if you do then your whole idea of marriage and family will go for a toss. The relationship makes a family, which makes a society and rules help to put the blocks together. I don’t think anyone can be in a relationship knowing that his partner is cheating on him.

Have you ever been ashamed of or regretted being in a relationship?

Ashamed? No. I am a very private person and I don’t like to talk about my personal life and that’s not because I am ashamed of it but because I want to keep the simplicity of the relationship intact. I have no regrets in life and luckily I have never regretted doing anything.

You had a rather unpleasant encounter recently when a man acted fresh with you sometime back and you slapped him right across his face. Do you think an actor or any pretty face make for vulnerable targets?

Chance Pe Dance - Movie review

Bollywood-Check : Chance Pe Dance - Movie review
- Film: Chance Pe Dance
- Director: Ken Ghosh
- Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Genelia D’souza and Mohnish Behl
- Rating: **

Chance Pe Dance is the kind of film where you know the end and can’t wait to get there, even if it takes its own sweet time to do so. Genelia is cuteness personified and gives a pleasant performance. Her pairing with Shahid works and scenes where they get to know each other are sweet.

The film starts on a promising note with smoothly synchronized opening credits but by its sixth scene you sense where it’s heading. The screenplay by Ken Ghosh and Nupur Asthana is conventional to the core, has predictable plot-points and lacks any dramatic graph. Kiran Kotrial’s dialogues lack depth and additional writing help by Manu Rishi ( Oye Lucky Lucky Oye ) doesn’t add any value to the narrative. Ken Ghosh’s direction lacks as much conviction as his writing and it’s easy to comprehend how he hurries and fabricates the storytelling in the second half.

Watch it only if you’re a die-hard Shahid fan and if three good songs and four good scenes satisfy you as an audience.

In the opening sequence of Chance Pe Dance (CPD), it’s established that struggling actor Sameer aka Sam (Shahid) is finding it hard to make ends meet in Mumbai.

He has only a loaf of bread and a little orange juice for breakfast, a refrigerator that doubles up as a wardrobe and a landlord knocking on his door for four months’ rent. In the last scene of CPD, Sam arrives for the premiere of his film, a superstar now.

There’s very little between these two scenes that would make you want to sit through CPD. The comedy seems forced, the emotions unreal (and the kinds seen in a number of other such films) and the script trite.

There’s a sub-plot, which entertains you for a while, but which is sadly sidelined for some reason. In stead, you have to bear with another tale of an out-of-towner making it in the big, bad entertainment world of Mumbai.

After three years of struggling, Sam finally lands the lead role in a dance-based film. But even as the film takes a while to roll, Sam is thrown out of his house by his landlord and has no money to afford even a decent meal.

So even if your heart is supposed to go out to penniless Sam – living out of his car now – he looks like he’s been splurging on protein shakes and working out at a high-end gym, although there are no scenes to establish that. Our hero is just blessed with an eight-pack, it seems.

Unwillingly, Sam takes up the job of a dance instructor at a school, and has to prepare a bunch of kids with two left feet to compete at a dance competition where they stood last among 22 schools the previous year. School of Rock ‘n’ Roll, anyone?

Meanwhile, the director of Sam’s film backtracks on his promise to cast him as the hero and launches a nationwide hunt for the role in stead.

Obviously, Sam participates, urged by his girlfriend Tina (Genelia), and if you feel there’s any chance of him not winning this competition, then clearly you are very imaginative.

Sadly, the makers of CPD aren’t. In fact, director Ken Ghosh and his writers don’t seem to have worked on making the film even a little bit engrossing.

The best sequences – and they are few – are the ones where Sam interacts with the kids at school. Even though you see this track go down the road-already-travelled by the Jack Black cult, School of Rock, you don’t mind it so much because at least, then, its not purely a struggler-trying-to-make-it-big-in-Mumbai kind of a story.

Sadly, that’s too much to ask for. The ‘dance competition’ that the kids participate in is hurriedly wrapped up – they obviously win – and then the film is once again about Sam striking gold as an actor.

The only area where the makers seem to have put in any effort is the execution of the dance sequences, and even if a few of them are entertaining, they don’t do much for the film otherwise. They have been picturised well – although one song where Shahid and Genelia are shown to tower over Mumbai’s buildings looks like a 90s music video – and Shahid brings the dances alive with his moves.

The songs, however, are not the kinds you would remember later. The sole exception is ‘Pump It Up’, in the climax, but you’re so fed up with CPD by then that you don’t really care.

Shahid gives an uneven performance, ranging from very good to hammy (especially when he’s supposed to do comedy). Post-Kaminey, you see the actor in a new light and he looks a lot more confident and sure of what he’s doing onscreen.

Although he does not-so-badly, performance wise, he needs to smarten up and choose films that do justice to his talent. His dances are a treat to watch.

Parikshit Sahni seems to be playing the troubled father in every second film and does a repeat of what he did in 3 Idiots and Dulha Mil Gaya recently.

Director Ghosh seems to have put all his efforts on song picturisations and little else. But with a story and script as bland, you can’t really expect him to make any sort of mark.

Watch it for the songs and if you are a die hard fans of Genelia and Shahid.

“Veer” has new style – Salman Khan

Bollywood-check - Mumbai, Salman Khan says period dramas usually give the impression that people in past eras never used to laugh, but promises that his new movie “Veer” will have its light moments.

“We haven’t followed the regular format. This has emotion, drama and comedy unlike other period films, which always casts an impression that no one used to laugh in those days,” Salman told in interview.

“The language has undergone a huge change. The dialogues are in contemporary language but would show that people of that time used to speak and behave like this,” he added.

HQ Picture

“Veer”, slated to release Jan 22, is a story of bravery, treachery and love. The story revolves around the 18th century Pindaris who preferred death to dishonour and fought to their last breath to save their land. Salman plays the lead role.

Throwing light on how his co-star Zarine Khan joined the cast, Salman said: “The film is of a different genre, so we needed a young fresh look. More than that we needed somebody with a yesteryear look. How our grandmothers and great grandmothers used to look, we needed someone like them.

“Just two weeks were left to start the film and we didn’t have anyone who would fit the role. We were searching left, right and centre and met her by coincidence on the set of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Yuvvraaj’.”

Salman denies any resemblance between Zarine and his girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

“Except being fair and having a sharp nose, I don’t see any similarity between them. Give god that credit for not making two people identical,” said Salman.

The film’s story has been written by Salman himself and while scripting it he was scared whether his father Salim Khan, a noted writer, would approve. “I showed the story to my father and the biggest fear was what is he going to say. But he said it’s a good story.”

When asked why he chose to make a period film now, he said, “I had written the story 20 years ago but at that time it wasn’t possible to make the film. I thought now is the right time to make it, so I did.”

This is Salman’s second film as a scriptwriter. His first was the 1990 movie “Baghi” and there is a common thread running through both the scripts – the father-son relationship.

” ‘Baghi’ showed a good relationship between a father and son, ‘Veer’ does that too. I believe that father and son should be the best of friends. Today, my father and me chat, drink and chill out together.

“But if I cross my line, I run away. I stay outdoor for two months. That’s the chemistry they should share. The respect should also be there,” said Salman who claims that he could be a good father.

“I am not sure how good I would be as a husband, but I believe I would be a good father. One has to get married, I will also get married but haven’t decided when.”

The actor has been in the industry for more than two decades and has played a variety of roles, worked in various genres and sported different looks.

Asked if there was anything particular he looked forward to as an actor, he said, “No yaar. I do whatever comes my way.”
