But, like a true Bachchan, the stunning former Miss World surprised quite a few at her first media call at Festival de Cannes by seeming a few kilos lighter and gleaming as ever.

She attended the star-studded amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in this cream chikankari sari and an elaborately embroidered jacket in place of a choli.

The actor, who was expected to turn up in something Indian ("She is wearing our clothes for her entries Cannes visit," a tabloid had quoted Sandeep Khosla of Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla fame as saying), but in a surprise move (hmm.. a pleasant one) the actor was spotted wearing a pretty Angelo Katsapis dress. Thankfully, Ash chose to keep it simple by letting her hair down, literally.

Weight issues force Aishwarya to skip Cannes?

Mumbai: All those who were waiting for a glimpse of Aishwarya Rai's daughter at the Cannes Film Festival this year would have to bite dust yet again.

Buzz has it that Ash might not attend Cannes Film Festival that is to be held from May 16.

While reasons of her backing out from the prestigious event may vary from work commitments to taking care of her baby, strong rumour doing the rounds suggest that she is skipping the annual event because of her weight.

Ash gained 'oodles of weight' after the birth of her daughter and when she was spotted in a fat avatar recently at an event, the pictures set off a buzz on the internet and social media.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been a regular at Cannes ever since she paved the way for Bollywood to be highlighted at international forums. And it was reported earlier that Ash would attend the event in the company of her 5-month old daughter.

Cannes Film fest holds a reputation of showcasing the best of the movies along with some avant garde fashion displayed by guests who attend the event. And, given Ash's current shape, her withdrawal from the event doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may never return to Bollywood movies again

Ever since the news of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan becoming pregnant came out, we have not seen much of her. During her pregnancy she preferred staying at home and did not venture out even after the delivery. Though Ash is enjoying her motherhood, so much so that at present she has no movie in her kitty, except for Ladies and Gentlemen, which was supposed to get released in 2012. Ladies and Gentlemen is to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and Abhishek Bachchan is to play in the lead role opposite her. But now story is all together different, Ash was spotted with double chin and too much of weight, which make her chances of returning to the movies rare.

However, as of now we see no signs of her getting back on the sets. In the latest revealed pictures of Ash we could easily see that she has gained lots of weight, post pregnancy. And sadly she is making no effort of losing those extra kilos. In the few public appearances that she makes she has come as a shock, and from her present scenario it is clear that at present she is in no position to resume her acting career.

Nevertheless, we hope that former Miss World who has ruled the hearts of millions, continues to do so by entertaining her fans. As of now here's wishing her all the best and we hope to see a lot of her in the future.

Within a couple of hours of returning home to Jalsa with the newly born baby of Aishwarya and Abhishek, the Bachchans organised a media meet at their Mumbai residence. While the baby’s father Abhishek and granddad Amitabh Bachchan addressed the media, the new mother chose to stay away from it. However, soon after the media meet Abhishek got wifey Aishwarya at the residence doorstep to wave out to the curious shutterbugs. Doesn’t she look lovely in the light pink salwar kameez and all recovered from the delivery pains? By the way, long back Abhishek had said in an interview that his wife is perfect in every sphere of her life. Even if it is something as simple as sleeping, the doting hubby said Ash magically ends up looking picture perfect in a natural activity like that also. Now we know what he means. It’s only a week since she delivered her first baby and there is not a single hair out of place or any trace of stress on Ash’s beautiful face. By the way, Abhi revealed at the press meet that his wifey did not take any painkillers and underwent a normal delivery. He also said that he won’t be taking paternity leave. Instead, Amitabh who recently wrapped up KBC 5 and Jaya Bachchan will support Ash in her motherly duties.

Aishwarya Rai in hospital for baby delivery

Aishwarya Rai admitted to hospital for delivery. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has checked in to the Seven Hills Hospital for delivery in the late Monday Night.

"Yes, she checked into the hospital late last night (Monday)," Ash's spokesperson confirmed.

Aishwarya's father-in-law and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan tweeted a few hours ago: "A day of expectation .. but another day ! The Lord has his ways and they are most special .. we wait !!"

The latest arrival in the Bachchan family is due any day now.

The Aishwarya Rai - new report is confirming she has gone to Seven Hills hospital on Sunday. The report indicates she went there along with her entire Bacchan family, as well as Shweta Nanda, her sister-in-law. The family has apparently booked four VIP rooms up on the fifth floor as well so they can be there for this joyous occasion.

Later today, it's expected that Aishwarya will be transferred from her current location to the delivery ward. As of this report, they are indicating that her baby will be born around November 17th, around 12 Noon. Then again, it could happen sooner, or later.

SECURITY TIGHT for the DELIVERY
Unprecedented security arrangements are being made for actor Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan who checked into the hospital on Sunday night for a check-up. Sources say that the entire fifth floor of the hospital has been booked for Aishwarya which also includes rooms, where her immediate family members can stay. The floors will have tight security where Aishwarya will be admitted.

“There will unprecedented security at the hospital. The entire floor and the floor below that will be made inaccessible without a valid pass. Also, there will be special passes created for only the senior most medical staff of the hospital for accessing the floor where Aishwarya will be in,” says a source connected to the Seven Hills hospital which has suddenly come under the focus after it was revealed that she will be delivering her baby there. “There are two gates leading to the hospital and a big car park which separates it from the road. The back gate which is mostly closed will be used by the Bachchan family to enter the hospital. The hospital has now built a small enclosure (perhaps for press updates) and also to post security guards,” says a source.

The hospital is also taking full advantage of the spotlight and are now organising press outings for the first and second floor for the public to have a look. “We can’t give you access to the fifth floor but you can see how the hospital is like on the first floor and the ground floor,” says a spokesperson of the hospital admitting that the spotlight on the hospital has surged at unprecedented levels.

Meanwhile Amitabh Bachchan posted on his Twitter page that he is loving the hustle-bustle around the house. “The family gathers together from all over as we wait for the 'arrival' .. Greatest joy for me - a full house and the 'chahel - pahel',” Amitabh Bachchan wrote.

The Seven Hills hospital is in Marol, northwest Mumbai, where Ash is expected to deliver her first child.

Her parents Vrinda and Krishnaraj Rai, husband Abhishek Bachchan, as well as her in-laws Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchanand Shweta Nanda accompanied her.

Aishwarya, wearing a light grey sweater over a dress, arrived in a Mercedes Benz. She certainly looked cheerful as she went up the stairs to check her room and complete some hospital formalities.

The Bachchans are known to be very traditional. They celebrate all traditions and customs in a grand manner. And the arrival of Abhishek's baby calls for a major celebration, and the women of the family had been planning this for a long time. Ash, is due to deliver next month. Jaya is planning everything down to the last detail - from the menu to what her bahu will wear, to the jewellery, singing and dancing. The event will be held in the afternoon. As per Indian customs, the girl leaves for her mother's house after the baby shower. Ash will go to her mother's house and the Rais will follow their own customs and traditions, but that will an intimate gathering of close friends and family members only.
